Our privacy matters
This is a plain-language summary of how Dropr handles your data, written to match every feature shipping in the app today. Last updated: July 2026.
Quick summary
Dropr is a real-world social discovery app. We collect what we need to show you nearby Droprs, deliver your messages, and time out your live Drops and Notes. Nothing more.
We never sell your data. We never run third-party ad networks inside Dropr.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings, and your profile, posts, archive, messages, and uploaded media are permanently erased.
Account and sign-in
You sign in with email and a one-time code or email and password. We do not currently support third-party sign-in providers — every account is authenticated end-to-end against your email address.
We store your email, your username and handle, a hashed copy of your password, and the timestamps of when your account was created and last signed in.
Profile data
We store the name, bio, avatar, cover photo, current city, country flag, languages spoken, and interests you choose to fill out on your profile.
We store your location-sharing and private-like-count privacy toggles, plus your notification preferences, so we can enforce them server-side on every message send and push notification.
Photos you upload
Every photo you upload — for a Drop, a Note, your avatar, or your cover — is uploaded to our managed object storage and replaced by a public URL on your post or profile. While the content is live, anyone who can view that surface can view the URL.
We do not watermark or modify your photos. We do not grant any third party permission to download or train models on your photos. Every uploaded image passes through an automated safety review before it goes live.
Personal and Professional accounts
Dropr has two account types you pick from at signup: Personal (default) and Professional. Personal accounts are for individuals; Professional accounts are for businesses like restaurants, bars, hotels, cafes, shops, tour operators, and wellness studios.
For Professional accounts we also store the business name, business category, and an optional website URL on the profile. Every Drop and Map pin from a Professional account is publicly marked with a gold PRO badge so other Droprs can always tell business posts apart from posts by individuals at a glance.
Drops — your 48-hour live posts
Drops are ephemeral by design. Every Drop stays live on the Drops feed and on your public profile for 48 hours.
When the timer ends, the Drop is automatically archived to your Me page. Archived Drops are read-only — they still appear on your profile and can still be saved or shared into a DM, but they can no longer be reacted to, and they no longer appear on the public feed.
You can delete any Drop, live or archived, at any time from its own menu. Deletion permanently removes the Drop, its reactions, and the uploaded media file.
Notes and the Talk feed — your 7-day live messages
Notes are short text-and-photo public conversations tied to a city and surfaced on the Talk feed. Every Note stays live for 7 days and is then permanently removed — Notes do not archive.
You can attach an optional photo to any Note. Photos attached to Notes follow the same upload, moderation, storage, and deletion rules as photos attached to Drops — the file goes through automated safety review before it goes live and is permanently erased when the Note expires or you delete it.
You can delete any Note at any time. Deletion removes the Note, its reactions, replies, and the uploaded media file.
When you post a Note you choose whether to allow public replies. If you do, any other Dropr can leave a short reply on a separate thread page attached to your Note; those replies are public, not private. You can mute the thread at any time or delete individual replies you don't want there. Notes you post with replies turned off remain read-only — no third-party content lands on them. Every reply runs through the same automated text-moderation pipeline as the original Note before it appears.
Location data
Location sharing is OFF by default. You explicitly opt in during onboarding or by flipping the Location sharing toggle in Settings.
When location sharing is on, we read your device's location while the app is in the foreground and store the city you are currently in, plus a precise latitude and longitude, on your profile so other Droprs can find you as a pin on the Map tab and so your Drops can be pinned at the exact spot you published them on the Map. This matches the NSPrivacyCollectedDataTypePreciseLocation declaration in our App Privacy manifest and the App Store Connect / Play Console privacy forms — we never declare rough location while collecting precise coordinates.
Each Drop and Note you publish is tagged with the city, country flag, and precise latitude and longitude of where you are publishing from. You can change or remove the location on each Drop before you publish. Location is required for every Drop — that is the whole point of the feature.
Turn location sharing off at any time. The moment you do, you no longer appear as a pin on the Map tab and your current city is hidden from your profile.
We never read your location in the background. We never track precise GPS movement.
Drops with a mode — Discover and Connect
Every Drop is either a Discover Drop or a Connect Drop. Discover Drops share a place worth checking out (a great cafe, a hidden viewpoint, a buzzing market) and stay live on the feed for 48 hours. Connect Drops are for meeting up in person (grab coffee, meet for tennis, explore with a local or fellow traveler) and stay live on the feed for 7 days.
Both modes carry a visible red countdown ring on every surface they appear so you always know how much time is left before the Drop expires. Meeting another Dropr from a Connect Drop is your decision and your responsibility — please use ordinary real-world safety.
Discovering other Droprs
You can discover other Droprs in your current area on the Map tab, where every traveler who has opted in to location sharing appears as a pin. Connect Drops — the 7-day meet-up mode of the Drops feed — let you post an intent to meet up in person, and other Droprs can respond with an Ice Breaker to open a private conversation. The Talk feed lets you exchange short public Notes with people in the same city.
Every discovery surface on Dropr is a discovery layer, not a verification service. Dropr does not verify the identity of any user, conduct background checks, or guarantee anyone's safety. Meeting another Dropr in person is your decision and your responsibility — please use ordinary real-world travel safety.
Ice Breakers and direct messages
An Ice Breaker is a one-line message that opens a private one-on-one conversation with another Dropr. We store every message you send and receive — text, optional location reference, timestamp, and read state — so the conversation persists across devices.
Dropr has no public comments. Every conversation between Droprs is private and lives only between the two participants.
We do not read the contents of your messages for advertising or model training. Authorized staff may inspect a specific conversation only when responding to a report or a legal request.
Push notifications
With your permission we register a push token tied to your account so we can send notifications about new messages, new follows, reactions on your Drops, new Drops and Notes in your area, and Drops from Droprs you follow.
Each notification type can be turned off independently from Settings → Notification preferences.
Push tokens are stored only on your own profile row and are removed when you sign out, revoke notification permission at the OS level, or delete your account.
Privacy controls you own
Location sharing — when off, your current city is hidden from your profile and you are invisible on the Meet surface.
Private like counts — when on, only you can see the number of likes your Drops have received.
Public replies on your Notes — each Note carries its own opt-in toggle, and you can mute the reply thread or delete individual replies at any time.
Block any user from their profile. A blocked user can no longer view your profile, send you messages, or have their content surfaced to you.
Report any user, Drop, or Note for review.
What we do not collect
Precise GPS coordinates outside the app session.
The contents of your photo library beyond the specific files you upload.
Contacts from your phone.
Browsing history outside Dropr.
How long we keep things
Account, profile, follows, and saved Drops live as long as your account is active.
Drops live on the public feed for 48 hours (Discover mode) or 7 days (Connect mode), then move to your personal archive indefinitely or until you delete them.
Notes live for 7 days and are then permanently removed.
Messages live as long as both participants keep the conversation. Either side can delete the conversation.
Reports are kept for two years to support repeat-abuse review.
Deleting your account and your data
Open Settings → Delete account. After a two-step confirmation, we permanently erase your profile, Drops, archive, Notes, reactions, saved Drops, follow graph, conversations, messages, push token, and every uploaded photo — within 30 days for production data and within 90 days for encrypted backups.
A few items survive deletion when they exist independently of your account — for example, copies of messages you sent remain in the inbox of the people you sent them to.

Storage and security
Profile, Drop, Note, and message data live in our managed Postgres database with row-level security so other users only see the rows we have explicitly permitted them to read.
Photos are stored in our managed object storage. Buckets for Drop media, Note media, avatars, and covers are public-read so the rendered URL works everywhere — anything you have not published cannot be reached.
Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms before they are stored — we cannot read your password back, even internally.
Data is encrypted in transit using TLS between your device and our servers.
Children
Dropr is not intended for anyone under 18. If we learn that a user under 18 has created an account we will close it and delete the data.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change how we handle your data we will tell you in-app before the change takes effect, so you can review it and decide whether to keep using Dropr.
